Hey there! For the past week or so, I’ve been working in a small team to develop an indie game for one of the last classes I’m taking in my BA. I figured: “Why not go out with a bang?” So, I made a trailer using what we have so far. While the assignment is due December 2023, I’ll be uploading a more polished version to itch.io early next year; it’ll look similar to what you see here, except it will have unique character sprites, dialogue faces, and parallax backgrounds (all things that our artist is working on now!).
See the full game description below:
“Sky Cell is a puzzle game and interactive branching narrative that follows two prisoners, Reid and Michelle. Both have been convicted of murder and are sent to serve life sentences in a prison that floats thousands of feet above the ocean. The two could not be more different. Reid was a locksmith who served well-to-do merchants; Michelle was a rigger who spent most of her life on fishing vessels. Reid insists on his innocence; Michelle openly admits her guilt. Yet when their arrival breaks an arcane axiom, Reid and Michelle must help one another escape before the prison falls into the sea. Your role as the player is to switch between these characters, make use of their unique abilities, and balance their feuding personalities to avert disaster.”
I hope you enjoy the trailer, but I hope you enjoy the game even more when it comes out. We’re thinking of a playtime of between 15-20 minutes, though the game will have several possible endings to allow for replayability. I’m also planning on doing another narrative analysis soon, which along with Sky Cell should do it for the rest of the year – though I may start uploading a RimWorld playthrough too. Putting out content in multiple mediums is hard y’all!
Wishing you nothing but the best,
Joel
