Hiya!
Two months ago, I uploaded this video to my YouTube channel for the 10th anniversary of the English release of Drakengard 3. It’s a retrospective that tries to pick apart how this bizarre, terrible little gem found its way out of Yoko Taro’s crazy brain in between the cult classic NieR Replicant/Gestalt and its hit sequel NieR: Automata. I look at how Drakengard 3 got the green light from Square Enix, what Taro’s goal was when developing Drakengard 3 as an experience, why people like me are still playing the game ten years later, and finally, what it all might mean for the next installment in the NieR franchise.
If you didn’t see this video when I uploaded it to YouTube, here is your late notification! I hope you like it, and on the off chance you also chose to suffer and slog your way through Drakengard 3, I hope I help you understand why we do it.
Enjoy your summer out there,
Joel
